Business groups in California oppose a bill that would allow adult children to add their parents as dependents to their health insurance plans, claiming it will raise costs. Nationally, healthcare spending continues to be a major worry for big business. The Purchaser Business Group on Health and Kaiser Family Foundation surveyed 302 employers with at least 5,000 employees and found: 49% of respondents moderately agreed that employer costs for health benefits are excessive; 33% considerably or strongly agreed 87% believe the cost of providing health benefits to employees will become unsustainable in the next five to 10 years 85% believe broader government roles will be necessary in providing coverage and containing costs
